<p>Yeah, they really do. you have to take a foreign lang. at most colleges on top of the high school ones, not necesarilly the same lang. but you do regardless. the grades in those classes arent that big of a deal if they aren't good but you should atleast take 2 years of a foreign lang.</p>
<p>at most universities, (not just elite ones) you'll need at least 2 years, or at the very minimum it is strongly recommended. In special circumstances however, a college may exempt this requirement. I know there was a music or art student who couldn't take fl because it conflicted with their music or art classes, and yale was very understanding and the student was accepted.</p>
<p>You really have to take at least 2 years. 4 years isn't a bad idea either. shows committment to something that isn't required but definitely worth your time. could be considered unique</p>
