Quick Question

I am a newbie at this please do not laugh at me :)

when i am applying for college, on the application do i apply for a certain school within the university or does that come later??

thank you for the help.

it should ask you on the application what school you would like to apply to (in BUs case..CAS, SMG, ENG..etc.) or atleast what major you are applying for..

so yes, do apply for a specific school on the application, and it is possible to change your mind later within circumstances

and some schools are easier to get into than others right within the university. example general studies in BU's case, correct?

Yes, CGS is the easiest to get into.

i dont remember, but i dont think you necessarily apply for CGS, maybe this years applicants can help me out here, but i think BU places you into CGS if you dont get into one of the other schools

You can apply to CGS directly and a lot of people do. It's just also the only school you can be referred to.

haha ok thanks...but my recommendation is to just apply to on of the regular schools ie. cas, never know right? and if not and have good enough stats, maybe they'll place you into CGS

I applied directly (EDI) to CGS. So yes, you can.

do you think i could get in early decision to CGS.

3.5 uw
1700
4 years varsity tennis
class senator
class historian
100+ hours community service
will have an awesome essay + recs.

you should get in..but your SAT is a little on the low side..you might want to take it again

if i raised my SAT 50pts and applied early decision to the business school, could i get in?

i dont know.. i got an 1860 and had a 3.6 UW gpa.. and didn't get into SMG.. i was deferred to CGS

but if i were you i would apply ED to SMG anyway.. and worst case is you will be deferred to CGS

their selection process is random at times.. i know kids with lower scores who got into SMG and people with higher scores who didn't, but honestly i dont believe a 1750 will make it.. but you never know

I'd say the SAT score is important for SMG. I got in with a GPA of 3.3 (uw) and a 2050 SAT score... I'm not sure about the answer to the following question, but I'm sure someone else will. If you apply to SMG (ED) and get deferred to CGS, are you required to go to CGS? I was deferred to GSP CAS at NYU, but I never applied ED...
