quick question

Okay, so I talked to an advisor, and she said to pick the absolute easiest major that still allows you to complete the prerequisites...
any suggestions?

Thanks in advance :)

Major in what you enjoy learning about...! What do you LIKE?

dmission... are you a high school senior currently applying to UCs? If so, it really doesn't matter which major you pick on your application. You can always change later down the line, and it won't affect which classes you can take your first quarter anyway.

Yes, I suppose that's true... just trying to get a head start.

I like science, but I've heard those majors are pretty hard no?

Science majors are harder than other majors, without a doubt. You should major in something that you will both enjoy and find challenging; I don't see any point in taking an "easy" major that will cause your intellect and mind to stagnate.

For example, I'm a molecular and cell bio major. Combined with the premed "score highest on everything" mentality, it is pretty damn hard, but I legitimately enjoy learning about the stuff. Would I be happier majoring in, say, communications? It would be easy, but I would have no interest in it. I might have more time to relax and play video games, but I would hate not challenging myself. In that sense, it would be much harder for me to be a comm. major, simply because I wouldn't be able to justify it to myself.

Also, some majors are not necessarily "easier". Poli Sci, history, english all require tons of reading and writing, and I would most definitely hate that. I like reading and writing but not on the scale these classes/majors require.

how is cell bio GS? what makes it so hard like the other science majors?

Cell bio isn't hard outside of the fact your classmates will be competitive premeds.

I think the part of GS' post to focus on would be: "You should major in something that you will both enjoy and find challenging; I don't see any point in taking an "easy" major that will cause your intellect and mind to stagnate."

how hard is neurology compared to cell bio? b/c the schools i'm looking at only offer physiology with neurology as one major

would neurology be something completely new to someone? b/c there really isn't anything like it in HS

No one can tell you how hard any given major will be. What's hard for one person is easy for another. As a freshman, I was a pretty good chemistry student, but I couldn't write analyze literature to save my life. Some of my classmates were great at writing papers, but they couldn't wrap their heads around the concept of the wave–particle duality.

So please, let's stop making blanket statements about how one major is harder than another. Difficulty depends on your skills, interests, and aptitudes.

I guess tutoring and stuff is always available for bio majors...
