Will my wallet be taken upon arrival? Should I bring it with me or let my parents bring it during Parent’s Weekend?

Bring your wallet.

If you bring it, gut it out. They will take pictures.

Haha can friends and family send pictures during basic? If so what are some regs on that? (other than obvious ones iam sure we all can assume...) ;)

So they do take your wallet? Or just pics out of it?

I kept my wallet in BCT. They just takes pictures.

They will confiscate picture from your mail.

We embedded a picture in a BCT letter for potter. It was pretty small so they missed it. Meant a lot to her.

My son had some pictures in his bible--they did not take them form him.

That is also a good trick. :) Bibles are off limits in every way. They will NOT touch them or ask for them. I kept necessary addresses/numbers/and maybe a picture....in there. :)

Hornetguy, excuse me but do the cadre open a basic cadet's correspondence?

It is opened in the mail room under cadre supervision. If anything is in there that is not allowed it is taken.

the cadre cannot open it themselves, but they can have basics show them everything to make sure nothing was hidden inside.

please also send cookies to your basics, particularly chocholate chip (those are my favorite!) lol

Support eagle's cookie cravings! ;)
lol...

Pictures and packages are the two big contraband items concerning the mailroom.

What no girl scout cookies Eagle? At least then it supports two causes, your sweet tooth, and the girl scouts.

those will work too if you still have them by then. most of mine are gone within a week or so. so having some at summer would be very rare to me

Reminds me of a story my mother always tells about my grandma slipping her husband laxatives in his coffee after one of his nights out...
Not that a well-informed basic would ever consider such a thing as laxative-chocolate-chip cookies.

not that the cadre would know exactly whose parents had sent those cookies and make life harder on that basic/cadet the rest of his/her 4 dig year and possibly after.

i see ur from toledo. what HS?

wow...

Not every Basic flight is the same though. Mine had us quickly leaf through our bibles and asked us pointedly if we were hiding anything in them.

I managed to hold on to a few pictures from mail during Basic (not gonna say how), but not many. They knew about printing black and white pictures onto the actual letter and slipping them into the mail, but not everyone knows about that. Whoops, did I say that? ;)

Oh, and my Basic cadre took my entire wallet away the second day of BCT. But, like I said, each Basic flight is different.

Definitely don't send anything to a basic other what you can fit in a plain white envelope. Anything else is generally a bad idea...

Alright. Thanks for the response. I'll be sure to bring my wallet now and if it gets taken it gets taken.
