Quick Question

How much help would it be to have the man who is married to Haas ( who the business school is named after) write a rec for me? I assume since he's donated a lot of money it would help...I'm just not sure how much it would help (I have average grades but really good ECs)

Btw I live in North Carolina and I'm going to apply to the business school next year

Also, both my parents went to Cal for undergrad and grad

Undergraduate? They don’t take letters of recommendation.

…unless you get denied and want to appeal!

Yes, for undergrad. They don’t take recs? Would they look at it though, even if they don’t take recs?

I don’t think they read any recommendation letters sent to them. :(

Undergrad admissions do not take or read any recs unless they are specifically for appeals (or any other special circumstances).

that stinks! i wonder why they don’t read recs.

^
Because they aren’t necessary? LOL. Also they’re trying to be as “fair” as they can. Everyone just fills out the UC application and yep!

well, they don’t have time/money to read recs. So many people apply to the UCs and UCs are horribly underfunded at the undergrad level.

ohh got it got it. it’s just so incredibly hard to get in from oos and it seemed like it would help boost my chances. but of course, if they wouldn’t read it, then that’s a different story!

Well, if you have good stats (mid 2200 SATs, 750ish SAT IIs, high class rank–at least top 5%, and 4.5+ UC GPA), good essays, and at least decent ECs, you should be fine. Don’t sweat it too much.

I understand how you feel  Good luck!

And btw you can’t apply directly to Haas anyways. You need to apply to L&S, which is good news for you cuz that’s one of the easier schools to get into :)

Thanks for that info kitkat! I had no idea…well now I feel a little better!

you mean the woman married to walter haas right?

yes that is correct

How many sat subject tests are required?
