Quick question...

I took a writing class at my school during my junior year and we did two weeks of college essays. Our teacher made us read various college essays, exposed us to different topics, and writing styles. We were then assigned to follow one of the writing styles from the essays we wrote and right now, I'm def. thinking about using that particular essay I wrote for that style of writing. However, my only concern is that the majority of my class had to use the same kind of style (of course, everyone's essays were a little different), but I'm kinda worried that some of my classmates will apply to the same schools I will be and possibly use that essay. I hope that makes sense! Basically, will I be screwed? I really like the essay I wrote and my friends do as well.

Anyone have advice?

In my opinion, good writers have their own styles. I think you can tell a lot about a person by their sentence structures, their word choices, and the flow of their writing. So, if you can, I think you should find your own style.

But I think in the end it comes down to sticking with whatever will give you the best essay. If this “style” helps you write, then go for it. I think college essays have to have similar structures anyway because of the word limit and general purpose.
