Hi,
- SO, here is the deal, I tired taking the SAT I two times and although I am satisfied with my scores on CR and writing, My math score is terrible (580). I tried focusing on math for my second taking of the SAT, but ended up procrastinating and could not improve my low score. I raised my writing and CR however. Here is my question, I do not want to risk lowering my scores on these two sections by taking the sat a third time, and quite frankly I am tired of sitting there for 4 hours going crazy under the pressure and time constraints, so CAN I take the SAT II math level I/II in order to make up for my low score on the math section? I think I can get a higher score by focusing solely on one section for a continuous period of time rather than jumping around between unrelated sections on the sat I. Also, will college adcoms disregard my low sat I math score or look at my application with more interest if, let's say, I get a 720 on the SAT II math?

Lastly, which test will be more reputable to take, the SAT II math level I or II?
And,on a side note, does anyonw happen to know how long it takes for act scores to be reported?

--> Thank you in advance for your comments and I hope I didn't overwhel anyone with questions.

If you only got a 580 on the math SAT I, there's no chance you'll do well on either SAT II exam. That Math Level 1 is slightly more difficult than the SAT I Math, and the curve is awful (If you get 5 wrong you're probably down to a 700). The Math Level 2 exam is WAY harder than the subject matter on the SAT I.

Take the SAT I Exam again and only study math.

issmepeter, how many question are there on the SAT II math level 1?
In practice tests from PR, I have been getting 720 on the SATII math level 2, so I think it is worth a chance. Also, this is my last chance to take the sat since college deadlines are in november, and I still haven't taken any sat IIs. SO, I rather take 3 sat IIs than wasting my time with the SAT I again.

I wouldn't say that you would not do well on SAT II's if you didn't do well on SAT I.

I had the same problem as you. Jumping around different sections for 4-5 hours is terrible for me. I try to concetrate on one subject, and then all of a sudden i run out of time there, and am thinking about that on the next section and it goes on.

What I'd recommend is taking the ACT. It gives you aboiut an 45 minutes to an hour and you are just focused on that section. Getting 700+ on the SAT 2's would definetly help, but I don't think they can cancel out your 580 on the SAT I. Depending on where you're looking or what major you intend to go into, I think it is important that you have a good math score on either the ACT or SAT I.

actuelly, u never know. i got a much higher grade on my 2c math than i did on my sat 1 math, and i've taken the sat 2 a month after the sat1. i didn't study to any of them so alot depends on the day of the test.

by the way, Does the sat math IIC involve complex reasoning questions like the sat I, or are the questions more straight foward and calculator-type problems?
