say one grader gave a 5 and another gave a 6, what would the final score be?

11/12 because you add the two and each is out of 6. 5/6 and 6/6 so you add those and get 11/12.

but the final score is out of 6, is it not

so they’d round up or round down ?

Yes, the add the two scores and that gives you your mark out of 12. However, I think if there’s a difference of two or more points between the two graders’ scores then a third grader will mark it (maybe that’s only for the ACT though).

no, final essay score is out of 12
