One result of the fire department's new contract is that they can no longer offer overtime pay on weekends.

Why is this wrong? The correct answer is:

*
As one result of its new contract, the fire department can no longer offer overtime pay on weekends.*

Thanks in advance

In the first sentence, who's "they"? The other answer choices that they gave you might have left the 'they' there or the other sentences were much worse than the correct answer.

^Agreed."They" is an indefinite pronoun (or at least I think that is what it is called).

Ah, I see. So "they" is ambiguous. That was kind of stupid, don't know why I didn't pick up on that.
