So which dorm would you recommend for a Jr who wants a non party scene and also a quiet one ? The lottery drawings are tomorrow and I basically requested every option. What are your chances of being picked for at least one housing option ? I really want to stay on campus so I would like to know.

I don’t know what the odds are but if there is an SLO relevant to your major that might maximize your chances of living with more serious students and of getting on campus housing. (It couldn’t hurt.)

North is really quiet. Try getting into Earth House.

Whats SLO ? And wait there are dorms that are major based? Are there biology and geosci dorms ? Earth house looks like its for Ag majors

If you can get into Eastview Terrace, do it (if you don’t mind the extra cost).

It’s amazingly quiet here, I feel bad when I sneeze.

I got Nittany apartments. How are those?

imho, those are great! Closer to things than Eastview (which is quite a hike) and apartment style living You should be pleased

How much are they? I can’t find the rates on their website

You are lucky! Current rates are here-

Next year’s will be finalized over the summer.

How am I lucky lol

I think many request Nittany Apartments but don’t get in. (My son was one.)

Oh yea I understand that it’s hard to get. However the cheapest room is 2, 965 $ a semester. I’m an OOS student so I’m going to get hit hard with the tuition and everything already. Are they even quiet? What do people like about them?

That works out to roughly $741/month to live close to the HUB, classrooms, the ice rink, and have a relatively private residence on campus unlike anyone else’s. Any abode full of students is not always quiet. If you reject the Suites contract, there is no guarantee at all that you will be offered a “regular” room contract, say at South. If you end up with no contract, you will have to find roommates and an apartment, and that is likely to run you between $500-$650/month, assuming you are not very picky since most easily located places are full for the 2013-14 school year. I think “quiet” is the least of your worries. You have until Monday at noon to make up your mind – pay for the Suite, or take your chances in the open lottery. I also appreciate the exhorbitant housing cost, so I can see where you might decide to gamble.

Well I didn’t get the suites I got the apartments and I already accepted the contract. I did so because I really want to live on campus and I didn’t want to take the chance of not getting anything at all. So what am I in for now at the apartments ? What I mean by that is how is the atmosphere? What are the benefits ? Besides the ones that were stated. I don’t think being close to the ice skating rink will be much beneficial to me lol.

I lived in Nittany Apts last year. I think it will really depend on your roommates. I lived in the the 4 bdr with my own room although there is also the two bdr where you’re sharing with another person. I think for the most part it’s pretty quiet, but once again it depends on your roommates. I liked apartment style living because you get your own kitchen which is pretty big, a living room and a private bathroom. The bedrooms are somewhat spacious, was enough room for me. I can’t think of too many benefits besides those.

North is very quiet. Do NOT go to east/south/pollock. I hear west is also nice on campus, but not many freshmen

just don’t go to east. based on what i’ve read, that’s where all the freshmen are

Me too for Nittany Apartments! I think it can actually save you a lot of money as well, because you are not required to buy a meal plan with this type of housing.

My son just got Eastview Terrace for next year as a sophomore. He is currently is East, which will be quite a change. Although he likes East, I think he is looking forward to his own room and bathroom. Any advice you can give regarding living in Eastview Terrace? He was told that he will probably be in Harris, since that is for sophomores. Is that true? He also was told that he can go online and select his room. Since he isn’t familiar with Harris, any suggestions in selecting a room?

Try getting one of the closer halls. The ones in the corner make it even more of a hike to get everywhere. I’ve never heard of one hall being year-specific, don’t know if that’s true or not. Yes, you can pick the room you want sometime in March I believe. I’d suggest not going too close to the door or the end of the hallways because of the noise from people entering/exiting the door/elevator and the laundry, respectively.
