Quinnipiac Dorms

I just read some reviews that said that the freshman rooms at Quinnipiac are mostly quads. Is this suppose to continue??? I have a feeling that will turn my son off. I wouldn't want to live with three strange people.

We toured Q last fall when S was looking. The dorm room we saw was a quad – a very large room, but still a quad.

My D’s best friend lived in a quad as a freshman there. It is hard. She said she was never alone in the room- never. Plus, add in everyone’s friends dropping by and the place is just grand central station. Not easy to get enough sleep and down time- that’s for sure. And you can’t even think about doing any school work in the room.

On our tour last summer the room was a quad. It really turned S off and now the college is off our list.

We toured in Feb. Most freshmen were in quads, a few were in triples. They tried to sell it to us as a plus - “If you have 3 roommates, you’re bound to get along with at least one of them!” D and I thought, “And you’re bound to not get along with at least one of them.” IDK, 4 eighteen year old girls in a room - can you say “drama”? The rooms were large but not huge - they had ALL the beds lofted, and under each bed was a dresser and desk. Each person also had an armoire/wardrobe. The dorm buildings themselves were adorable - very new, clustered around a little courtyard, with nooks and crannies and window seats popping up in unexpected places. But 4 kids in a room was enough to take the school off D’s list.

We looked way back in '04 for d for the '05 admit cycle. Things were tight back then, freshmen in quads and triples. Also, I believe upperclassmen (at least seniors) were required to secure off campus housing, and it’s apparent they haven’t done anything to relieve the situation.

Was favorably impressed with the school and program, but the housing was definately a turnoff.

violadad, they have significantly improved the upperclass housing options - but some of them are at a remote campus a couple miles away. “Don’t worry, we have frequent shuttle busses.” And the frosh are still in the quads.

just crossed Quinnipiac off D2’s list unless someone can post a different story about housing: for the cost of Quinnipiac, this is unacceptable…

We just left S4 as a triple in a double room. All I say is that he’s not happy with it.

I can’t understand why Quinnipiac would build new dorms like this… That’s a lot of $$$ to spend to share a room with 3 other people. I now consider it off the list also. Too bad!!

Quinnipiac seemed to have strong programs but I got the sense that the place was definitely a “work in progress,” especially the physical plant. It is a very new school. I couldn’t get over there being only 4 undergrad academic buildings, none of which was very big, for 5000 students. All were new and state-of-the-art, but it just seemed like there should be more classrooms somewhere! They are adding a new health careers campus, but again that is several miles from the main campus. The main campus seemed to have a lot of open space, but they weren’t building there?

When we toured Elon, I had a sense of deja vu, until it hit me: Elon is what Quinnipiac wants to be. But I don’t think QU is there yet. IMHO.
