“I want to be different–just like everyone else.” ;)

Just to echo again, what the heck does “quirky” mean? I’m an outsider in my artsy/hippie residential college because I don’t believe the world is peachy and good all the time nor am I artistic in any sense of the world. If I was in the philosophy department, I’d be considered “normal” lol.

I have zero interest in being different from most people, but I am. It’s why my mommy tells me I was beamed down from space :D

Try the College Life forum with this question ;)

Caltech
U Chicago
Harvey Mudd

If you want to see “quirky” go to youtube and type in Caltech ditch day 2012 or University of Chicago scavenger hunt. Thats the definition of “quirky” or maybe too smart to be totally normal (which works well for the kids).

If you think your “quirky” your not. If you think your school is “quirky” it isn’t. It’s like being insane. Only insane people think they are normal.

OK ^^that one has me laughing.

I am not really sure what your definition of quirky is, but my daughter went to visit a friend at American University and said she disliked it because, “Everyone was so quirky!”

I can only tell you that my DS said, I don’t know what quirky means, but Beloit is it.

Nerd =/= Quirky

Hmm… When I hear quirky, these schools come to mind

MIT
Caltech
UChicago
CMU
Reed
Oberlin

Quirky is a relative term, though.

Wesleyan?

10 char

I wouldn’t call kids at those schools quirky. Not when you’ve faced green hair and all the other things art students do.

So let me see if I’ve got this right. You’re a guy, a straight guy, and you don’t consider it “quirky” to attend an overwhelmingly male college during that period many describe as “the best four years of your life?”

I always thought quirky meant on the spectrum but intentionally undiagnosed.

My DS is attending an all-male college and I would describe him as goofy, cool, but not quirky. To him quirky is a bit more carefree.

Post #34, except I don’t think being diagnosed has anything to do with it.

Okay, I realize this is OT to the original topic, but when a post says

10 char

at the bottom, what does that mean?

I’ve seen it on CC periodically and can’t figure it out.

Thanks!

I think lololu has it right - anyone who tries to be quirky, or at least is aware of quirkiness, may not actually be quirky. True quirkiness requires the absolute absence of the desire to be quirky. On an unrelated note, many in Wisconsin consider “Beloit” as it is spoken to approximate the sound of a fart under water.

Vandy, 10 char is the number of characters required for a post, so if,I just say, yes, for example, it isn’t long enough.

Sometimes, people just post 10 char to bookmark the thread when they do not want to post anything, but want the thread to pop up.

I guess I define quirky differently- never assumed someone had to be on the spectrum- more like, goes against convention in some way that works for their own identity or style. That doesn’t necessarily mean loner or oddity.
