Quitting a sport senior year?

Okay, so, I’m thinking of quitting swimming. I only did it my junior year because I decided I needed something for my college applications (even though I’m bad it and can’t even dive, I belly flop at the start of every race. The only stroke I’m decent at is breaststroke, and even then, I can only manage to come in 3rd through 6th place for a race. Never came in 1st or 2nd before) and my friend persuaded me to do so.

However, now I’m a senior, and I am very stressed out, not to mention I have senioritis. Practices are 6 days a week, 2 hours each practice, and I have to wake up at 4am for morning practice. I’m taking hard classes this year, including a self study AP class, and I’m also valedictorian, which puts pressure on me to maintain that.

The catch is that I already put swimming for one of my 12th grade activities on my college applications which I sent out before the season started (when I still wanted to swim). So my question is, will quitting affect those college apps? As in, will they know I quit OR think I lied about doing swimming or something? Will it negatively impact my admissions at all?

Thanks in advance!

I would not do an EC if you did not like it just to get into college, and the fact that you swam in 12th grade or not should have no impact on whether or not you are accepted.

Zippo impact on your app. Don’t let the sport pull down your grades, that will impact your application. It seems clear you want to quit - and it really sounds like you should. It has so little impact on your application, especially since you just started junior year. And truth is, the way I hear it, you did swim in 12th grade, you just didn’t finish the season. Not unlike someone joining a club in April and saying they were in the club junior year. Still a true statement.

It depends on where the OP is. High school swim season has not started here yet.

@VickiSoCal Swim season started a week ago at my school

Got it. Starts in March here.

And I have now decided to be a manager, not completely quit the team. I don’t think I could’ve done that without getting my coach eternally angry at me anyway
