So I’m in my school’s Color Guard team and I’ve been in it for 3 years. I was JV Sophomore year and then Varsity Junior year. But we had a change of leadership this year and the new coach has something against me and placed me in JV for my senior year. It’s second semester and I’m thinking about quitting the team because obviously I’m not being respected or appreciated for my hard work so I feel like I can better allocate my time and efforts into my school work and my other EC’s. I volunteer at a hospital, work as a peer tutor and intern, and have a bunch of leadership positions that I can spend more time on. I’m also thinking about getting a job. So I’m wondering whether I should quit or not? It is a class period so I would have to withdraw from a class second semester of senior year. Do I have to notify colleges if I do quit? If so, will it affect my admission decision substantially?
You have to tell colleges if you change your class schedule. They definitely notice any change when they check your transcripts. But I don’t see this as making any noticeable difference in your admissions. You don’t have to explain reasons, just say you’ve had a change in your schedule and tell them if you’ve substituted another class.
If it’s an official class then you have to notify colleges. Your new ECs in the second semester will not help your college admission. You should swallow your pride and continue with Color Guard. It’s the simplest solution.
My daughter dropped a core class second semester senior year. Every college was fine with it. She took something else.
Just drop it. Sticking w/ an EC/class you dislike makes for a bummer of an end of senior year. Be happy in your last few months!
I agree 100% with @MomOutWest - ECs are for YOU - not some college.
