Quitting a sport?

Would it look bad on my application if I just quit cross country/track next year? I don't really enjoy it mainly because it takes a lot of time(ik that the sport takes commitment and dedication) and next yr I don't want to be loaded with hw and get back home at like 6:30. I also wanted to devote more time to bboying/ breakdance club because I really enjoy it...Im a freshman btw if that helps in any case..

I’m the same. I dropped all sports for this year (sophomore) but did XC last year. I’m doing tennis junior and senior to make up for some of it. Which should be easy. My advice is to find an easier or less time-consuming sport. I must admit that not having a sport has left me more willing to complete homework and studying. But I still think sports are major ECs, especially if you can varsity. My plan is to become phenomenal at tennis over the summer, then varsity for two years. I think any sport will be viewed in a similar if not the same light, granted that you can varsity letter in it. Do other ECs, too.

yea i wanted to try to focus more on my academics and clubs…

The importance of ECs depends on the colleges that you go to, but if you really dislike running, then quitting it should be fine.

its not tht i dont dislike it its just tht it takes up wayy too much time…im fine with xc but then if i quit track id have a free period for half year and they dont hve a lot of good senster courses…

plus id have to give up xc with it…so i have nonidea of what to do as of the moment

I’m wondering about this too.

I’m on the tennis team at our school, but we hardly ever practice.
We have two practices a week, but it always rains (I live in Washington, go figure) so we end up conditioning all the time and never really playing tennis.

I didn’t sign up to run around in the gym. I signed up to play tennis. Unfortunately, doesn’t look like this is happening. I’d really like to quit.

Sports can look nice on resumes, but they aren’t the be-all-end-all, especially if you’re just a team member (not “most inspirational”, “team captain” etc.)

Pick something you love doing (like dancing) and excel. That looks better than any sport.
