Quitting a Three Year Commitment

I have been in Science Bowl for three years and have revolved my schedule and life around it. I thought for a long time that winning science bowl was one of the most important things I could have done in my high school career. As I roamed the forums these one and half years, I have realized how deluded I have been.(Thank you)

I have led and co-lead the team for two years now and this year I am captain. However, I am no longer interested and want to quit. I am now conducting research at a nearby laboratory and find it much more interesting and rewarding Is it worth quitting Science Bowl at the cost of my position and perhaps a good recommendation letter(my coach is a very emotional person and holds grudges over things like this).

Last year I was EIC of the school paper but due to schedule conflicts I had to drop out of Journalism for senior year. -facepalm-

Well hopefully either your coach recovers or you have other sources of strong letters because I think doing research at the nearby lab is a wonderful way to round out your app and display your scientific research interests. Good luck!

^ditto

10char

spoken like someone who has never felt the glory of winning science bowl?

that feel when you are doing research at a lab and gunning for a science bowl win.

^LOL: You caught me =P

Should I officially tell my SB coach that I’m quitting or just pretend that I am still interested while mentally quitting(feels unfair doing that though)

I think you should just stick with it. You’ll get a good recommendation letter and won’t anger your coach. Save your energy for your research but don’t outright quit Science Bowl.
