I'm thinking of quitting Science Olympiad and Knowledge Bowl and all those little time consuming things, or maybe one of my sports, in favor of doing more church stuff and better in school and college apps. do you think this will be super bad/unreasonable?

no, that is a fine idea. im not kidding either, do what you like.

i wish we had a science bowl though

It is important to always strike a balance that works for you. Only YOU know what the best balance is and it should be what YOU love because ultimately, that's who you will answer to. It is important to devote sufficient time & energy to school & college aps. Your entire life, you will have to be figuring out the best balance of activity for you. Senior year has a lot of stuff going on anyway--you know best how well you're balancing now & what adjustments seem appropriate. You may wish to discuss with your GC, teachers, coaches & figure out what will be best for you.

Do you like the church or are you merely doing it because someone else (including admissions) is telling you to? Do you hate the activities that you are quitting or do you feel that you are removing a part of your life?

thats a great idea, its not like they will know that you quit

should you notify adcoms if you drop ECs?

I don't think there's any need to.

Well if you don't do an activity at all so far senior year then you really shouldn't mark it down on your apps that your participation includes senior year (like when they tell you to circle 9, 10, 11, and 12 based on your participation).

Also, if you held a title of leadership prior to senior year (or during senior year for that matter), please, for the sake of the other club members, don't quit.

by mid senior year i had dropped all ECs but one (and had like close to 10 before). if your done, hey, your done.

yeah, seriously, i second namaste's opinion. i stopped going to so many meetings. u know something really funny. i'm in interact club this year, and it turns out that i have less than the required number of points by mid-year...so, they tell me i'm on probation, and they said if i don't get enough points by the end of the year, i can't be in the club next year...as if that matters lol...once i got that notice, i stopped going to meetings or anything else...i'm going to gradually stop all the other clubs and just stick with tennis...

Now that apps are sent in, is it ok if I stop volunteering at a local hospital? Will adcoms check with the hospital?

^Who's got the time?

I quit the musical this year...the cast was chosen largely on favoritism, and there has been too much favoritism going on at my school...and I'm sick of dealing with it. Bye-bye musical. :( I'm sad because I loved doing it, but I refuse to watch myself along with several of my friends be stuck in the ensemble when we're better suited for the leads than the people who got them.

no, not unreasonable. since there's so much to do, you obviously have to chose. plus it's not like u can say, oh i choose my ECs instead of applying to college, which would just be stupi

MY parents told me to keep doing it until my interviews are over because interviewers can tell you haven't been volunteering???......?????

no they cant, only if u tell them -__- just take experiences from past volunteering for ur interviews

oh, and i doubt they reallyt care

Well..then you'd be asking "is it okay to quit stuff I'm wink wink nudge nudge PASSIONATE about?"

depends on level of passion, tho. if you have to kill yourself, well, then quit

can we quit everything all together 2nd term?

i don't think that's an issue. By the beginning of senior year, I quit Chinese school, softball, and piano. I still like(d) those things, but just didn't feel like doing 10 things at once with college applications. I still have NHS, Z-Club, and work. I'm tired of doing so much stuff, I love life but I need a break. Plus, senior year is supposed to be fun... sorta, anyways.
