how do you quote a passage and not an actual quote from a book??
for example:

how do you quote-

She looked at Rose of Sharon huddled in the comfort. Ma's eyes passed Rose of Sharon's eyes, and then came back to them.

Thanks!

i need to know this by tonight

Isn't that directly from the book? If it is you quote it the same way.

In an essay: To quote a passage from a book, if it's a long passage (I think the criteria my teacher uses is if it's over 3 lines) then you would separate it from the body by 1 line and press tab 2 or 3 times, then put in the passage in quotations. At the end of the quote, end the quotation and put (p.12) or (pp.12-14) for the page numbers. Use one "p" if it's only on one page, 2 if it's on more than one. If the passage is less than 3 lines long, you can keep it in the text but you would still include the pages at the end of the quotation.

So for your example, this is what you would do. "She looked at Rose of Sharon huddled in the comfort. Ma's eyes passed Rose of Sharon's eyes, and then came back to them."(p.[Insert page number here]). Continue text, whatever you need to say.

Hopefully this all makes sense and it's not too late (although I have a feeling it is).
