I am currently enrolled in the FPF program, and I choose my schedule tomorrow.

I have satisfied the Entry Level Writing Requirement, but neither R&C semesters. I am still waiting for my AP scores from my senior year of high school. My score on the AP Language exam might let me skip English R1A, but I won't know until July!

Should I enroll in English R1A anyway, or try my luck with R1B? Is there a way to switch classes after I've already enrolled in them? Is R1A so awe-inspiring that no one should dare skip it?

Thanks!

I’m not as familiar with R&C enrollment in FPF, but generally those classes fill up quickly and are best to sign up for in Phase 1. I believe that the biggest benefit to finishing the two-part requirement as soon as you can is that you’re presumably thereafter more prepared for other writing- and reading-heavy courses. I don’t think there’s a clear-cut answer here; you could enroll in either of the two halves of the requirement (based on your best guess regarding your AP results) in Phase 1 and drop it if you guessed wrong, you could wait until Phase 2 to enroll if (1) you know your AP score by then and (2) classes are still available, or you could defer the requirement for future semesters.

One route you could take is to enroll in R1A early; that way you can finish that half of the requirement in the fall if need be, or, if you get sufficient AP credit, later drop R1A and either try to get into R1B in the fall or just leave it until the spring. In either case, you’ll finish R1A in the fall for sure, either through AP credit or the class itself.
