What is the deal with alcohol at west point. 1st offense immediate separation? What if you´re of age?

aspen,

Loved the Beast story. I'll just bet there are so many more like this. And you're right. Irritating, but not worth quitting over.

Regarding Knowledge and whether you should memorize early or not...

This topic had a lot of discussion last year. The majority seemed to think that you need to learn to memorize knowledge while you're under the pressure of Beast/plebe year. It's part of the preparation for the stress of being in combat. (It's also extremely irritating to most new cadets and plebes.)

Most of the Knowledge consists of information that you would have no exposure to as a high school student. However, there is probably nothing wrong with knowing all verses of The Star Spangled Banner or even America The Beautiful. You'll need to know them at sometime in your life.

In the meantime, enjoy the next 4 months.

Plebes and Yuks cannot drink, even if they're of age. 1st Offense doesn't mean immediate separation, but you'll get hit pretty hard. I think it's a three strikes you're out policy, but I'm not sure. Just depends on the offense.

Marines4Me--did you enjoy 100th night?

Yea, I thought it was pretty funny. Singing Happy Birthday to the BTO was quite entertaining. I think my two favorite quotes were:

"The only thing blacker than his heart and soul are the eyelets of his TA-50."

"This isn't America, it's West Point. We defend democracy, not support it."

Both quotes from the guy who played the BTO. :) Did your daughter like it?

She thought it was hilarious. She also mentioned the democracy quote, as well as someone who sang some "Team America" songs with different words. She said she enjoyed it much more than she expected to.
