<p>about how long after housing assignments are made should it take for them to start doing R garage offers? </p>

<p>i'm leaving for almost a week on a stupid camping trip, and i won't have access to the internet on any of those days because i'll literally be in the middle of nowhere... and i don't want to miss the offers, because i think you only have a limited window of time to accept and pay! TIA :) </p>

<p>Well if you want a R permit in TRG, MAG, or GUG you can just buy them online right now for the full school year.</p>

<p>How do bike permits work? I’ve never seen any sticker attached to the bikes around campus – how would an officer be able to notice??</p>

<p>When going through the process of purchasing a Garage permit, I noticed that the “start date” is listed as 9/1. Perhaps I am missing something obvious, but if my son’s on campus arrival date is around 8/20, can this permit be used for the 10 days or so before September 1? Thanks in advance.</p>

<p>@DenuMz If you’re in a private dorm, shouldn’t you be close enough to walk to campus or take the WC bus? Doesn’t your dorm offer parking?</p>

<p>R permit is a Resident permit. You want an S permit, a garage permit for non-residents.</p>

<p>R permits are for students who live in the dorms, and they have to park in the garages (you can list your preference). For the Brazos garage, your car had to be above the fourth floor and there was some moving involved for football games.</p>

<p>There isn’t a “master” permit that lets you park anywhere on campus. There are lots of spaces that are A and F located in convenient spots, but you can’t get either of those as a student. HOWEVER, after certain hours, usually 5:45 or 7:30 pm a lot of spots are open to ANY permit, so you can use even the night and weekend permit to park there. They will ticket you if you park in a space marked with “UT permit required at all times” or something to that effect. S is also for the garages, but if you don’t live on campus. You won’t be forced to park on the upper floors, but it is definitely first come, first served for space on a daily basis in the garages.</p>

<p>If you’re set on having your car near you in campus, you might want to check craigslist to see if anyone is selling a space in west campus or you might want to consider the commercial garages there too. R and S permits aren’t going to be much cheaper than Dobie.</p>

<p>Tar heel - yes, the permit will work as soon as your son arrives. Last year, my ds moved in on the earliest early move in day and his worked. They will mail the permit to him in early August (if I remember correctly) and it will have all the instructions.</p>

<p>Yeah! I finally bought my R permit for 27th Street Garage. The price, man oh man – but oh well… :S</p>

<p>How much was it Sasha? I might just go with Dobie, but the S permit sounds attractive. I’d like to park on the side of the roads some times around campus and I can’t do that without a UT permit.</p>

<p>Mine is $743… which I actually feel like is fairly reasonable, at least compared to how much parking costs at the private dorms or at pretty much any apartment complex</p>

<p>That map is awesome. So I would need an S permit if I wanted to park my car at the Brazos garage? If not, what would I need or am I even able to get parking in that garage since I’m in a private dorm?</p>

<p>Also, why would I have to move my car for game days if I have a LASP and season tickets for football?</p>

<p>^ You would have to move your car because they use it for special event parking. You as a student would not be allowed to park there just because you are attending the football game. Most of the close parking is all converted into handicapped parking for the game, and people have to pay to park for that time.</p>

<p>R if you live in a Student Dorm, and S if you live in Dobie, or another West Campus area and you want your car on campus.</p>

<p>“**The S permit is not intended for 24-hour storage of your vehicle. Should you need to keep your vehicle in the garage longer than 72 hours, please contact the garage office for overnight authorization.”</p>

<p>The S permit acts like an R permit as far as garage access goes during the day, but it’s still a commuter permit and not for 24/7 parking. It’s only useful if you want to drive from your apartment (if it’s far away) and park in garages on campus.</p>
