What lady gaga has done was act crazy enough to gain popularity and money. And then she started making songs about meaning without risk. Examples:

Born this way and JUDAS

It’s what a Lot of artists do

Johnny Depp does great roles in a lot of films so now he can do a film like Pirates of the Carribean 4 for fun without tarnishing his reputation.

Why do you think American Idol is so Popular?

Because many of these people with godly voices can’t just “Get discovered while pumping gas,”
Once they get fame through Television, record companies see that they can sell them.

You can’t just walk up to a company and sing with your great voice.

The same way a writer can’t just walk up to a publisher and ask for a deal, No matter how great their novel may be.

American Idol is a shame. Only two artists has had success Kelly Clarkson and Carries Underwood. The rest of the winners are basically nobodies. They can’t sell for nothing. To have real success you have to work for it, not win some tv show.

Happened to be watching a Jennifer Hudson MTV video today. No, she didn’t win idol, but idol brought her to center stage. And she looks great now too!

Sad about AW, but unfortunately not at all surprising.

When it all comes down to it, it’s all about “IMAGE”. Amy Winehouse brought something new to the table that no one here had actually seen before (or at least recently). And I have to say her looks may have played into her success although they weren’t the main cause. She had a unique look to her, something original. Most American Idol contestants just don’t have that “IT factor”. They could almost be like anyone of us, which is why we don’t really find much interest in them 4 months or so after they’ve won.

I have to also mention that American Idol really doesn’t go “out of the box” when it comes to genre selections. It’s always country, or mainstream pop, or soft rock. I don’t think they’ve ever had a true rock, indie, rap, etc artist win the show. I feel that if they did, that artist may actually have some “staying power in the industry”.

I can only imagine the vetting process and the contracts that AI contestants must sign. People with substance abuse issues like AW would have been weeded out pretty quickly on AI, just as Frenchie was booted because of her having taken some topless photos years prior. Glad she made it as far as she did on “The Voice”. Nice redemption.

Clay Aiken and Jordan Sparks had a hit after the show, so it was that one or two years. After that, they haven’t had a hit or any major sales to help them. Clay Aiken hasn’t had a hit in six years, Jordan Sparks new song isn’t going anywhere in the sales department. In fact, non of the winners besides Kelly and Carrie has had true success. This proves that the show doesn’t get you places. And to the fact that the record deal your made to sign after winning the show, pretty much signs your soul to American idol. So they control what you do, and what songs you sing.

Now look at artists, that worked their way the traditional way, and they have stronger careers because they built a fan base more intimately, than on a tv show.

Both Amy Winehouse regardless of her personal troubles had a big selling career, she worked her way up. Some people mentioned Lady Gaga, she to, worked her way up, And her career is a phenomenal success. Not many artists can say all their singles went top ten.

Thank you for posting something actually related to her death.

And I agree with what you said. I found out who great of a musician she was five days (or so) after having listened to her two albums for a while. She has talent. It sucks a lot that a) people knew her more for her drug use and b) her promising career was derailed by death.
