What do you know about RIT?

What do you know about RIT..?

Second-tier engineering and technology college in suburban Rochester NY with an art/design and top photography school. A little like a less selective Carnegie Mellon without the music and theater component. Rather modern looking campus called Brick City. They do not have chem eng or biomed eng. They have engineering "tech" as well as engineering. Hockey just went Div I. 80% male. Has a tech school for deaf students too. Has a small Hotel School. Mediocre grad rate. Has a Business school. Imaging Science program is distinctive. Not much social life but does have Greek system. If your SATs are above 1200-1250, you could probably do better. Some people think very highly of it.

What else do you want to know?

Collegehelp is somewhat accurate; however, I think RIT is better than Collegehelp would let you believe, but it is not as selective as its competitive counterparts such as CMU and MIT.

It is very akin to CMU in programs and even has a very strong art and design school. Although it doesn't have a theater or music program, which CMU does have, they do have a new minor in music.

They also have something that CMU and many other schools don't have: a strong coop program. It is a very focused, tough school that operates on the quarter system. Computer access is very good and wireless in omnipresent. Check out my "Overview" of RIT found at the top of the RIT forum.

Be advised, RIT is a very hard school made harder with a quarter system. The quarters thus move quickly, which is one of the reasons for a "lower" graduation rate.

If you review college forums, you will see primarily two complaints by students: The male female ratio is 2:1, although this is normal for technology schools. RIT is, however, trying to remedy this.

Secondly, their 6 year graduation rate is about 60% or less. This is lower than most of its competitors. This is partly true, however, due to its coop program; thus, students take longer to graduate. It is also, as I mentioned, a tough school. Although the average SATs are around 1200-1250,with some getting much higher scores, they treat the courses as if everyone is MIT caliber. Thus, kids work very hard. It is, however, much more reasonably prices than any of its competitors.
CMU, for example, is 31K a year in tuition alone! RIT is about 23K and gives good merit and need based aid.

Also, RIT is in Rochester. This is a mixed bag. There frankly isn't much to do right near RIT, plus it gets really cold in the winter.

I will tell you that I have met a number of folks from the Rochester area who have attended top schools such as Yale, Harvard etc. All of them have told me that they believe RIT to be a very good school academically. From my observations, .

In addition, if you check US News and World Review rating of RIT, which is found in top schools in the North that offer Master's degrees, you will see that RIT is tied with number 1 for peer review rating. Thus, presidents and deans of other schools feel that RIT is top notch.I would agree.

fact
RIT reverted back to the semester system, not on quarter system anymore.
And, YES, they DO have chemical engineering as a major.
