I have some questions about a resume.

If have 14 activities but the common app only allows me to add 12, what should I do with the other 2 ? Should I make a resume for all 14 activities or write the other 2 in the additional information of common app?

Can I mention activities listed in common app in my resume?

Anyone can give me a format of a resume?

Thank you

At my school, the counselors make us all do a resume because it’s a good place to expand on otherwise vague activities. I don’t think it’d hurt to make one, and if you do, add all 14. However, you should probably think about whether all 14 are really necessary to add, y’know? If there’s like, a one hour walk that you did in 9th grade, you can probably cut that to try and get it down to 12. If not then a resume’s probably th best solution.

I listed everything in my resume.

You may attach a resume. Formats will vary–do some Googling to compare some options. I’m personally a fan of the activity list Michele Hernandez suggests in her book Acing the College Application, using a chart that gives you a place to elaborate on your role in specific activities.

However, I question if you really have 14 activities that are worth of listing. Often, colleges prefer a concise list of those activities most important to you over a laundry list of every minor thing you’ve been involved in. I’m personally leaving off all clubs I was only a member in , participated in for no more than a year, and all community service, since my involvement in service has been sporatic and as a follower. That leaves me with six solid activities–a smaller list, obviously, but one that better reflects my interests and strengths.

glassesarechic, I dont have the book so can you tell me more about the chart by Michele Hernandez? I am curious. How long should it be? What does it include: ECs or academic achievements or anything else? What about the columns and rows?

bumpppp 10 char

bump againnn

Today, I read a book from Ivywise. There is something like a brag sheet. I find it so so long and superficial but it includes every activities.

  1. What are the differences between a brag sheet and a resume?
  2. What should I send? Give me your own opinion.
  3. Do I need to list down what I have done in my activities? Or just mention the name, how long, and positions/honors as in the brag sheet in the book I read.
    Thanks

I don’t think you need a resume because you are applying to a college, not a job. Colleges might get confused and throw away your application. You might also get confused when you’re older, and start applying to jobs with a college application. That’s why I don’t think you need a resume.

How do you get your resume onto the common app?
