Ra

This is kind of an offbeat question, but I just wanted to hear some input.

What does it take to become an RA? (Resident Assistant)

Share some thoughts and experiences.

Thanks!

My school's process consisted of an Online Application with 5 or 6 short essay questions (things like, probing for ideas of what you would do with residents, seeing how you can handle certain situations and whatnot..things that you should already be thinking about if you want to be an RA). After the application process, there are 2 interviews. There's a solo interview with a staff member, as well as a group interview. I myself didn't complete the interview process, but I heard it wasn't TOO bad.

Then our housing staff chooses who they want as staff members and mails out decisions. Of course, after you've been selected you have to head back to school pretty early in the fall for some extensive training and bonding activities, BUT I hear it's well worth it!

Interesting...thanks for the post.

Does it take up a lot of a person's free time? Are they constantly dealing with other people's hassles?

it depends on the type of people you get on your floor. at my school, my floor was quiet and many people didn't party, drink, etc. Two floors above, they had to change the ra 3 (three) times during teh scchool year because they got into all sorts of trouble including:breaking door knobs, windows, spilling water into other people's rooms by tipping trashcan full of water against their doors, and so on.
