I was wondering if anyone here knew the specifics on the West Point cheerleaders? (tryouts, requirements, etc..) I can't seem to find much on them besides an old page on USMA's clubs link. Can anyone help me out here?

Tryouts are in the fall and in the spring. They're the second week of school, if I remember correctly. There's a week of "cheer clinic" where they teach you a simple cheer and On Brave Old Army Team, our fight song. If you've never stunted before, they'll teach you how to chair, and maybe hands. The tryout is your cheer, OBOAT with a few other people, stunting, and tumbling. We must be one of the very few schools in the nation that have the same amount of guys and girls show up for cheer tryouts.

No requirements, but big smile and big spirit!

No requirements, but tumbling is a part of tryouts? What kind of tumbling is reccomended? How much tumbling can current squad members do?

Don't forget the Rocket!

thanks for all the tryout info! i'll definitely be there!

meg

Tumbling - whatever you can do. We had people throw back handsprings, flips and some awesome tumbling runs. Not everyone can do that, and we don't tumble that much...it's mostly cheering and jumps, which I forgot to mention. Our awesome tumbler graduated last year, and I don't remember anyone being particularly spectacular at the football games this fall. By the way, since this is probably the best place to ask, do you want me to write up a post on being a girl at USMA?

That would be awesome. Thanks!

Anything specific you want to know about?

I was informed by a recent grad that a standing back tuck was required for try outs... is this true? Any current rabble rousers out there?
