Race question

I am a quarter japanese on my moms side, and my dad is from louisiana and know's nothing about his racial makeup except that he's creole or cajun (i forgot which.) I guess you could say I'm a mutt, but i usually think of myself as japanese since my japanease grandma is my only full blooded grandparent. Furthermore, I clearly do not look like your average caucasion with fair skin and blonde hair. My question is, when filling out college applications, is 1/4 Japanese enough to consider myself Asian? Since asians usually aren't considered URM, I'm not just using this as a hook or anything. I'm just curious as to which box I should check. As a multiracial person I don't fit neatly into one single bubble. What would be the politically correct choice be?

Leah

Why not say "other" and explain that you're multiracial -- white, Asian (Japanese) and creole/cajun?

yah explain urself on the app...id downplay aznness when applying to like MIT but thats just me...dont lie to urself is all. in the end, ur inner aznness (test scores!! woot!) is what matters. JK!

put other .

I would put White....

Why not put mixed? I think mixed-race applicants are more of a minority than both Whites (Caucasians are Georgians, Chechens, and other people from the mountain range) and Asians.

It doesn't really matter - you're not going to gain an advantage if you put down white or asian.

I'd put down whichever one you identify with more. :p

Are you 3/4 White? I'd say, if you are, I'd say that you identify with that the most, 75%.
