Hey guys,
So my parents were born in pakistan, but somehow my mom lived in Iran for 7 years...
she used to be an Iranian citizen if I am correct...
then I was born in Saudi Arabia after my family moved there...
I lived there for a year before moving to Canada and living there for 8 years before coming to the states...

I guess my question is, what race am I?

I like to call myself Middle Eastern since i was born in Saudi Arabia, but theres no way to claim that on common app since I just become part of other White people...

If I am middle eastern is there any way to specify that on common app?

Race is different from citizenship. If being born in Saudi Arabia is so important to you, you can note it in the additional information section (although that may be a little excessive unless you’re trying to make a point).

You should answer the two optional race and ethnicity questions (or not) in the manner you feel best describes you. The first question asks if you are Hispanic or Latino. The second asks you to identify yourself regardless of how you answered the first part. One of the options you will see on that list (which is dictated to a certain extent by the Feds) is “White (including Middle Eastern).” Checking that box will prompt you to respond European, Middle Eastern, or Other.

The last answer posted here points to the correct process. The current FAQ and discussion thread on this issue in the College Admissions Forum
