I was reading one of my college books trying to get a general idea of what they are looking for in students. I ran across University of Virginia and noticed that they consider race/ethnic status as a very important factor on admissions. It was the only college I saw that considered race "very important." What other schools like UVA consider race such an important factor?

You may have misread that. As far as I know, it is now illegal for race to be an official factor in admissions at public universities...

I agree that you must have misread it. I doubt if there's any college in the US that considers race very important in admissions.

Practically every college other than the UC's and now Michigan public schools consider race to be an important factor in admissions. Schools are very proud of their commitment to affirmative action.

Are we forgetting that Michigan was sued and the supreme court told them they were no longer allowed to assign value to race as part of their academic index?

Because that's kind of important...

You didn't misread. It's only illegal in Michigan and California to count race in admissions (in public schools obviously)

But you see, they have many "very important" admission factors...so take it with a grain of salt.

i see. thank you!

Legacy is in the first category, wow.

i saw somewhere that in a lot of colleges minority status is better than legacy, especially in colleges that are having trouble diversifying.
