Can anyone tell me about the race relations at Aggieland. I have been reading past posts about questions of racism on campus. I was wondering if any current student could help elaborate on the atmosphere for minorities, specifically African Americans.

Ejovwo, I think you have not gotten any answers to this yet because it is such a touchy subject in our society from all sides of the spectrum. Let me just answer it from a personal perspective. In any large group of people, be they white, black, asian, hispanic, etc., there are going to be a few "jerks" who treat people poorly for stupid reasons. Having said that, I truly do feel A&M as a whole is friendly and accepting of any race. The best advise I can give you is to visit the campus, take a tour, talk with people, and get your own impression rather than relying on extreme views on discussion boards from people who may have an axe to grind for rational or irrational reasons.

My youngest S2 just spend his 1st semester as a freshman Engineering CSE. He is an Asian American from CA dorm in Lehrent Hall. Giving the low minority student population statistic posted on TAMU web site, we will quite apprehensive at the beginning. However, from his short experience it is a non-issue come to race on campus. Every encounter of his experience has been positive. In fact, S2 told us they seems to be more minority population then what is stated. Perhaps it can be his major or his living environment where they are more OOS students. The only negative he mentioned was that some professors are poor educators. Which we know is a fact of life of past and present. It happen to S1-UCLA-Sophomore as well. So, visit the campus and apply, and don't let the few narrow minded and innuendo stop you.

Good luck.
