How much does one's race play as a factor in law school admissions? I am Korean.

Asians are underrepresented in Law, so you would get a slight nudge

I heard somewhere that asians must get higher gpa/scores because their average is high. Is that false?

You’re right. Scales is wrong.

Asian Americans constituted 8.1 percent of law school students in the fall of 2009 <– Underrepresented

Unfortunately for you, scales is wrong. Asian Americans comprise about 5% of the general population, so if 8.1% of the law school applicant pool are Asians, they are actually over-represented relative to their size. I have also read from numerous reliable and less-than-reliable sources that Asian Americans do not benefit from affirmative action in law school admissions.

Darn…

Spooned I dont see what your problem is. Even if you get in thanks to the URM factor, this won`t help u in law school and neither it will help u in court. Be prepared to work hard and depend only on your own

Wait, wouldn’t being Asian actually hurt your odds of getting into law school? (I actually don’t know.) I found this from Wikipedia:

[Affirmative action in the United States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](<a href=“Affirmative action in the United States - Wikipedia”>Affirmative action in the United States - Wikipedia)

Yes, I know that Wikipedia is inaccurate and unreliable, blah blah blah, so let’s just get that all out of our systems now. Okay, so with all that aside, the article mentions that Asians seem to lose the equivalent of 50 SAT points in what is apparently admissions to undergraduate schools. Wouldn’t it stand to reason that the same concept would apply to Asians in law school admissions? Since Asians are technically overrepresented in law school relative to their population size in the United States. So for Asians, does their race count against them? I’ve honestly never heard of Asians receiving benefits because of their race; I’ve only heard the opposite.

Also, scales actually said Asians get a slight nudge, but didn’t specify whether it was a nudge in favor or against. That makes me even more curious…

Overachiever - I never asked anything about past the admissions, so if you want to go talk about it, why don’t you open up another thread? All I asked is what kind of impact does race have on admissions, not whether it is good or bad for me.
