So I was adopted into a multiracial family, and though I am biologically white, I am considering identifying as black on an application. Although some ulterior motive exists in boosting my chances for admission, I do genuinely identify with the culture to a fair extent. Ethically, would it be unfair to take advantage of that and include black on an application for my identification?
It asks for race. One doesn’t get to choose what race they are born with. Ethically, I think you should ask yourself, “If I didn’t have an ‘ulterior motive’ for putting down black, would I still have put it down otherwise?”
Yes it would. You put what you are, not what you were influenced by
Lame reference, but Tarzan was still a man after living with gorillas. He didn’t change, but was def. influenced
Dude, I like sipping margaritas on Cinco de Mayo, but that doesn’t make me hispanic.
