For me, racial/cultural/whatever pride has never been nationalistic. It’s never been “I’m better than you because I’m American”, or anything like that. But when an American does well in, say, the Olympics, I’m proud of them. I feel a connection to them due to our shared land or background, and that connection makes their victory a bit more…personal, almost. I’m proud to be like them because they do great things.

You can’t say “I’m proud to be white” the same way you can say “I’m proud to be Mexican”. It’s simply not specific enough. Saying “I’m proud to be American” or “I’m proud to be Irish”, on the other hand, makes more sense, imo.

This I agree with. Although I do not feel any sort of “ethnic pride”, I do feel very proud of been an American and everything America as a whole accomplishes.

Well im kind of a contradiction.my mother is ‘white’(german, spainiard and french) and my dad is ‘black’(jamacian) lol. But I look like a straight up rican.

I think its kind of bs too how when a minority says “I hate white people” nobody cares but if a ‘white’ person says it all h*** breaks loose. I think neither should be able to say it. It further proves your ignorant by judging someone before you know them solely on the color of their skin.

I wouldn’t really say I have racial pride. Its more of a im-proud-of-who-I-am pride lol. I embrace my ethinic background but boasting about it is ridiculous and un-called for…just my $0.02

I am proud of the fact that I know where my family comes from…my dad’s side is German and my mom’s side is British.

I’m very proud of the fact that I’m an American. I think it’s important to have pride in your country. Not necessarily your race. Especially since your race is something you have no control over.

I’m proud of the fact that I’m a good singer, because I’ve worked hard to achieve that. But I’m not really proud of being white, because I didn’t have anything to do with it.

Plus, white people haven’t done a whole lot that I can be proud of in the first place. YAY OPPRESSION! XD

But at the same time, I think any type of “racial pride” is ridiculous. Racism is going to exist until people stop acknowledging it..whether in a positive or negative way.

I literally had someone tell me once, “You have to be racist. You’re white.”

The two girls who were with me at the time happened to be black (two of my best friends, coincidentally)…they looked at each other and started laughing. It’s almost impossible to be racist growing up where I did.

I think racial pride is ridiculous. There’s no point, and all it does is start fights and feed the prolongation of racism.

Although I have no “racial pride” (I actually choose not to associate myself with any particular race/ethnicity), I have no problem with anyone else having it. If someone wants to be “proud” of his/her race, home state, hair color, country of origin, or whathaveyou, I think it’s perfectly within his/her rights to do so-what’s the problem? Having pride in oneself is certainly different from having a superiority complex (and acting on it).

I’m proud to be Latino. I waves the flags around on our independence days and events, on my backpack, clothes, etc.

No offense, but for a Latina you sound so white washed saying that showing off our heritage somehow implies ‘supremacy’ over others. Especially when Latino/Hispanic isn’t even a race, and neither are nationalities races.

Black pride, white pride, brown pride, yellow pride, whatever. There’s nothing wrong with being proud of your ethnicity and race.

I say this as I’m blaring reggaeton for all my neighbors to hear with like 20 'spics in my driveway and house.

Break down racial pride. It means being proud for being a certain race. That’s like being proud of the prime number of hair on your scalp or something dumb like that. Why would you be proud of something that you did not have a choice and were not involved in?

Though, I am proud to be American because I believe in the ideals of secularism and capitalism.
