Wow..this kinda has me worried!! The party itself doesnt have me worried, I mean, there will always be people like that..thats a part of being a minority. I am not saying it's right, but in life you just have to deal with racist, bigot and ignorant people like that. What disturbs me even more is when a student said that a "racially themed party" has happened before but that no action was taken and that they hope that Cornell will do something about it this time.

I think I will call them tomorrow about this. Or, maybe I am just overreacting.

The double-standard of "racism" these days is ridiculous. I was at that SAE party described - what exactly is wrong with having a party where upstairs is Canada with Canadien-themed decorations, downstairs has some sand and is supposed to look like a beach in Mexico, and the dancefloor is the US? How is that, in ANY way, offensive?

This stuff seriously es the * out of me. "Ghetto" themed parties "mock racial heritage"? Give me a ***ing break. So what, only black people are allowed to dress "ghetto?" Only Mexican people can wear sombreros and drink Dos Equis?

This remark:

?I see some people smirking and laughing; this isn't funny,? said Justin Davis, a senior at Cornell, from the podium. ?You better be glad that this stuff happened in the Finger Lakes of Upstate (expletive) New York because if we were someplace else like Atlanta, Baltimore or D.C. ... there would be a lot of people getting stabbed around this place.?

has got to be one of the stupidest things I've ever heard, and is exactly why no one listens or really gives a **** about what they were saying. I am from one of those cities, and I've never seen a rally over white people (and the irony is there are people of all races at those parties, not jsut white people) dressing "ghetto" or wearing sombreros. And if you really want to improve the "image" of your race, backhanding the threat of violence at your detractors is only going to make their opinion even stronger.

Worried about your "racial image"? Tell people that other members of your race would be stab people over a stupid ****ing party theme! Brilliant!

And SexyLikeAScorpio, did you read the article? The parties weren't even racially motivated, at all. One featured Mexican decorations and brothers wearing sombreros and drinking Dos Equis and the other featured a house set up like North America. If that's racist then pretty much any Mexican restaurant is also racist. I have plenty of minority friends who attended one or both of the parties mentioned, and didn't find a single thing offensive. There are plenty of minority students in both those houses, too. What we had here is about 25 people (note to the author of that article: people passing through Ho Plaza, annoyed by people yelling expletives into a loudspeaker in the middle of it, don't count as "protestors") craving attention. Sounds like they got it, at least to some degree.

Yeah I read the article and I realize your point is right but I dunno, I was just worried if I was gonna hear anything about Cornell being racist. Then, I read this article that is TRULY disturbing: http://www.cornellamerican.com/article/79/#add

I find the Cornell American very disturbing in general.

Yes. I am actually laughing at them, they are hillarious.

I'm still going to Cornelll...and I cant wait!

i want someone to write an article about frat parties in a positive light now.. if that's possible.

SexyLikeAScorpio - It's only an editorial. Meant to be entertaining.

And honestly, he's right about the music. It's the most uninspired **** you'll ever hear, anywhere. I don't see why he's complaining about the cheap beer - it's free to anyone but the brothers of the frat, haha, so how could you complain? BYOB if you are so elitist. But the music - there is more than just the top 10 dance/rap hits of the last decade that people will dance to. And it does get annoying hearing some rapper yell "LET MY BALLS DRIP, THEY SWEATY" or "**** THEM *****ES, BANG THEM HOS". Ok, ok, every now and then they might throw on Bon Jovi's "Livin' on a Prayer," a song I'm sure no one has ever heard before. There is just so much, SO much more people can and will dance to (INTELLIGENT hip-hop, reggae, anything but 24/7 gangster rap).

I'm writing a letter of protest to the Sun about parties that don't serve manishevitz during passover and cause me to abandon my Jewish culture by forcing me to consume non K for P alcohol, just to demonstrate the stupidity of the accusations in this case.

"I wish that they would play country music."

lol

Will the Wickens protest my Halloween costume?

... its a Cinderella outfit (tho this might be considered offensive "breeder" attire by others.)

What's funny is that that American article actually made the parties sound fun to me lol. Besides for the cheap beer...which I guess I already drink anyway, I'm READY! hahah (the ugly girl scares me as well lol)

The only thing I found to be "TRULY disturbing" in the Cornell American article was this:

"This next creature to emerge from the herd of floozies is arguably the most dangerous: the ugly girl who thinks she’s hot..."

That wouldn't be you "Sexy"LikeAScorpio, would it?

hahahahaha

ps those parties sound extremely unracist. They actually seem to be accepting culture. Wearing a sombrero and drinking mexican drinks is racist? hmmm...? People point their fingers way too fast these days. I would LOVE one of those parties and I'm white but in diversity clubs and insanely open-minded and unracist. People these days...

Spanks, do you find this amusing? Just curious because it happened this past week at Princeton. So far noone knows for sure who did it. Though worse has been published as satire too often in Daily Princetonian and in Nassau Weekly. Frankly I am not amused by it at all.

I don’t get how this is considered racist... if anything, they are embracing and exposing students to various cultures lol !!! Sooo…if this is racist then most school sponsored clubs would also have to be deemed as racist too? I’m not fully aware of the actual nature of these parties, but based on what I have heard they don’t sound bad!

Just so that you know what I look like:

This is a candid picture of me taking in one of my best friend's homes. It has not been photoshopped or altered in anyway.

I think I am damn cute!! Thank you! Have a nice day!

Hedoya, I really don't know what you're talking about since this is the Cornell board and I'm referring to the "incidents" at Cornell. I actually don't know why you'd even think I was referring to the picture about Jews since this thread is about "racially themed parties" that were hardly offensive. The parties in question allegedly offended Hispanic people at Cornell and had nothing to do with nazi propaganda at Princeton (which I apparently find amusing?). But, to answer your misplaced question, I clearly I find anti-semitism amusing, being a Jew and all (that's sarcasm, in case you missed it, again).

Hey, hey, hey, just a joke. But I'm glad you could take it in stride.
