i'm an indian applying to georgia tech and have a 50/50 chance of getting thru
i've heard from a lot of people that theres a lot of racism in georgia and a lot of discrimination especially against asians
is this true???

honest responses would be appreciated

also ive heard the crime rate in those parts is extremely high

Crime rate high? True. Though, it's mainly around south Atlanta, south Fulton, Clayton, parts of DeKalb... You should be safe at Tech, basically.

Racist? Definately false, especially with Asians (they seem to do well here, especially in Gwinnett and Cobb). In fact, ATL was named one of the least racist cities in the USA in one survey. You should worry more about traffic and having a cell phone (cell phones and cars are MUSTS around here and are considered complementary goods due to traffic).

I see very little racisim at tech. For the most part people get along pretty well. I expected some when I came down (i'm from NY) but even the most southern people I met where pretty open minded and interested in other cultures.

Also there are a ton of Indians/Asians at Tech, you won't be a minority by a long shot.

I'm sure there are racists around, but they keep their mouth shut.
