Racism in Law Employment

I heard from some friends of my parents that there is a refusal to hire Asian lawyers for BigLaw firms even if one is qualified and goes to Yale/Harvard. Is this true?

If so, I'm actually mixed race - half white half asian. If I deemphasize my asian heritage, will I be able to avoid this racism?

I have never heard of or witnessed such a thing.

Youll be fine. As far as i know, there is just about as much racism as there is in any other job field which is pretty much 0%.

If you go threw profiles on some law firms, you will see tons of asians (nearly 33%).

Dont worry about it

No and not necessary.

Alright thanks - I was a bit worried at first cause I never heard of this before but one of my mom's friends emphasized it while I was overhearing some discussions between him and my mom. It sounded more like he was just repeating hearsay but since I'm pretty dead-set on law I don't want to suddenly find myself screwed over there haha.

Thanks!

just wondering, why would you deemphasize your asian heritage? wouldn't you rather just keep your convinctions and find a different firm?

race isn't exactly a "conviction." but i do agree with your sentiment...if a firm appears turned off by your race tell them to stick it and try to get in with one of their competitors.

Actually 212314, there have been reports of outright racial and gender bias from some prominent firms. A few years ago, Stanford Law School banned a firm from recruiting on campus for said egregious conduct towards minority students that the firm had interviewed. Also, the published essays and opinion pieces on the difficulties that SOME women face at top law firms are too numerous to mention.
