Well, i read one of the earlier threads and am now worried if racism exists on campus. Is it true that indians/ asians are treated differently? Aren't asians accepted in the social scene of illinois? Are there Indian clubs for indian students at illinois. I hope I am convinved that students are indifferent to every1 as illinois is currently my TOP choice.......

your race has pretty much nothing to do with anything. if you act like a stereotypical asian and do your engineering homework in your room all day and never talk to anybody on your floor, dont join any social networks, and pretty much alienate yourself from any social scene, dont expect other people to try and get you involved with their activities.

By asking if there are indian clubs, you are already trying to alienate yourself from the non-indian community. i hope you realize this.

well there is the ISA. indian student association. fairly popular.
also for example, if you want to party at a frat or something. generally they won't just say "no you can't come in" but they might charge you a little more than others i.e. hot girls. but some frats are pretty nice and will let anyone in to their parties. lol last night the Triangle was yelling out "free beer" to everyone who passed by and indeed, there was free beer. so it depends on the frat.

its not like girls pay $2, white guys pay $4, and indian guys pay $6. its usually either $5 a cup (apartments) or $5 a cup for guys and girls are free (lambda chi), depending on where you go... i can understand triangle having to give away free beer... i mean... its triangle... engineering/science/math fraternity...

frat parties pretty much only seem to happen during rush... after that, the party seems to move to the bars.

actually...my sister went to U of I, and they have a really close-knit Indian group. She met most of her friends through MSA (Muslim Student Association). I don't think racism really exists...i just think that most indians just stay together b/c they can't drink and do some of the stuff that others do (some of them).
