RADA - haven't heard back after a month! :/

Hi there everyone!

I’m really in need of some advice regarding what to do… See, I auditioned for the lovely Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts on March 6th. I had an absolutely fabulous time, and even better audition. I know it’s some of the best acting I’ve ever done. When I finished, the lovely RADA graduate sitting in told me “that was lovely” and the two panel members said I’d hear back within 2 weeks. Well, it’s almost been 4 weeks now and it’s driving me nuts.

I know they’ve already sent out some letters/e-mails (I’m an international student) as two other people I know auditioned on the same day as me, and received rejections on the same day, the following Saturday after our audition.

I’ve already e-mailed RADA twice (super kindly and politely, of course!) regarding when I’d hear back, but to no avail. My question is: Should I call them regarding this matter on Monday?

They say pretty clearly in the admissions guideline to applicants that we shouldn’t call for the results, but they also say that we’ll usually know said result within a week. As it’s almost been double that time for me already, I’m losing patience, I suppose.

I know I might sound delusional regarding my own abilities, but I have done theatre for several years, worked as a director’s assistant and I am currently finishing up a foundation course in Sweden. I know the graduate wouldn’t have complimented me if she didn’t genuinely think I did a good job either, but at the same time I don’t think it can be a good thing that they’ve failed to come back to me for so long… Should I substantially lower my expectations?

Thanks a bunch.

Did you receive a same-day recall audition? It seemed pretty clear that there would be no acceptance without one. My daughter also auditioned on March 6, but only received her rejection by email last Thursday, March 30. Nice letter, though, suggesting that based on what they saw, she should apply for their London summer program.

@MargoDavis13, I would encourage you to just wait. Their schedule is very different from the American schedule. I’m not sure what answer you expect if you’ve already emailed them twice, anyway! Hang in there  Basically at this point if you haven’t heard from them, they are still considering you, so that’s good.

My S did not get a same day recall audition. He spent about 15 wonderful minutes auditioning with the RADA folks in NYC (in March), and that was it. He then didn’t hear from them for a while. He then learned he was invited to the London two-day recall toward the end of May. After that, he didn’t hear he was accepted until late June.

thank you @connections - it is so nice to hear from someone who has had experience with RADA!

Hi @connections. My D is very interested in RADA and is there now, attending five weeks in their Shakespeare Summer School. She is 17, happily mixed in with a few 17 year olds and many 18-25. We are trying to understand their calendar for auditions (although we know it is extremely competitive). So is your son going next year? If so, congratulations! We would welcome all suggestions. I know her RADA instructor gave some guidance too, so that should help. My immediate question is that he BEGAN by auditioning for them in NY, is that right?

Hi @FourStars, I sent you a pm!

Hi @connections, I’m currently located in the U.S. and very interested in auditioning for RADA in NY. I was wondering if you had any thoughts about the process, (which is quite competitive to say the least) or in regards to having a successful audition/the NY location?
Congratulations to your son, as well! It is quite an accomplishment to be accepted to RADA.
Is he on any student loan program to pay for the tuition? I’ve heard that the UK schools don’t accept certain student loans, so I was wondering if you had any thoughts on that as well? Anyway, thank you for your time!
