Radical Leftists

At what colleges/universities would a revolutionary communist or anarchist find a large number of like-minded peers?

BYU, Texas Tech, Notre Dame, and most schools in the deep south.

SnuggleMonster, thanks for contributing to my thread but do you have any serious answers?

Bard College...

Notre Dame are u crazy? that's one of the most conservative schools around. and BYU is a mormon school, also very conservative, why would a leftist go there they wouldn't fit in at all...????? try Bard,Evergreen State, and Oberlin.

NYU or Columbia or something lol... i'm willing to bet that most kids at radically leftist schools are too busy partying and studying on the side to start a revolution

Sarcasm's a *****, ain't it?

reed college. crazy as hell. you should love it. either that or venezuela.

anarchy is really more of a right wing philosophy

I hate to derail, but I feel like I have to respond to Drew00's post. Drew00, please don't be offended and please don't take this as a personal attack but the fact of the matter is that anarcho-capitalism is a relatively recent phenomenom. Traditionally, anarchists have always been opposed to both capitalism and the state. I suggest reading the Wikipedia entry on anarchism for more information.

This quote in particular sums it up well: "Pro-capitalist opponents of the state have generally not called themselves 'anarchists' due to the term's perceived association with socialism and violence."

I hope you don't consider yourself both a communist and an anarchist, considering those political philosophies are pretty much mutually exclusive.

Vassar College, Wesleyan University, Brown University etc etc etc

I was speaking in (broad) modern terms of liberal and conservative. Liberals support a large, paternalistic gov't and conservatives support a smaller gov't. In reality Anarchy isn't really right or left, but I'd say it's closer to right than it is to left.

Actually, there is actually an anarcho-communist theory out there...I'm not entirely sure how it works, I thought the two were mutually exclusive too.

"conservatives support a smaller gov't."

Maybe in the Goldwater days, but not today.

I love when anarchists go to $40,000 per year colleges, preferably with their rich parents or the government footing the bill. If you want Communism, why don't you row to Cuba in a bathtub and tell all the people you run into going in the opposite direction how great it will be when you hit Havana. Lurker, were you around in the late 1980's and early 1990's when all of Eastern Europe gleefully threw out the Communist leaders? And do you really like that enlightened gang that's running North Korea?

Reed College

Pure Communism would probably be liked by the majority of people in those countries...too bad pure communism is, in reality, pretty much impossible as a stable form of government.

TG, my sentiments exactly.

I'd suggest the OP hightail it over to Kim Il Sung University, Pyongyang, Korea and then let us all know when he gets his fill... oops, you won't be able to use the internet - send us all a postcard from the edge...

Pensive, that's because Communism is based on an inaccurate and overly optimistic view of human nature. Sounds great in text books; always fails miserably in reality.

Prestige, I'm liking you more every day. Too bad you went to Princeton and would only associate with me if I were your butler.
