Ummm...I'm pretty sure that's not right. I know that they will hire some students for the more visible student positions, but only after they complete a comprehensive one-year internship program -- and those jobs are based on ability and commitment, not whether the student receives any aid. My son doesn't get any aid and he went to a membership meeting at WFUV last fall when he was a freshman. He had to follow up with an interview that same week, but finally decided not to join because they wanted on-air staff at that time and he wasn't interested in that. He's writing for the paper instead.

I'd call FUV directly, because it sounds like there's a major disconnect in the info they gave your daughter. Did she want to work for the station (on-air, engineer, writer, producer, etc.), or on the office staff (receptionist, filing, etc.)? I'm thinking that maybe those clerical jobs w/ the station are for kids on work-study, but I'm not even sure about that. WFUV is one of the best radio stations in the country, and continues to be a training ground for some of the best people in radio AND television. Lots of kids who choose to go to Fordham do so because of the chance to work with that station. And they're not all getting financial aid. :) Here's the link: http://www.wfuv.org/

well, it SOUNDED that way, but yes, you don't need financial aid to work tere, however, you DO need to have all your FAFSA stuff in even if you DON'T qualify or get any aid

some goverment falderrall

I did call, and they were very nice and clarified how it all works

I just didn't want to hold my D back because on paper we look like we have lots, when we are like the rest of the middle class, and we won't be

If they want her, it will be made to happen

She is more interested in research, producing, maybe on air evenuallty, but that is down the road

they have a workshop program first, then internships, etc, unless you are AMAZING

So all is well

Good. :) The FAFSA paperwork must have something to do with the fact that FUV is affiliated with NPR and gets federal funding.

something confusing like that....but there is leeway to some degree, and no one would not get a job because they don't get financial aid, just a matter of bizarro land paperwork
