Ragans Chances for Sophomore?

Hey, right now I'm a freshman and am wondering what my chances will be for getting housing in Ragans next year? My priority number was number 4,000-ish last year. Thanks!

Sorry to say, but you probably won’t. I’m a sophomore this year, and applied at the end of last year for Ragans and didn’t receive it…my priority number is about 3500. I didn’t even receive a single in Landis…

=/ Sorry!

What about for 261?

In the last year or two, there has been an increase in upperclassmen staying on campus. Last year as a freshman we asked housing about her chances for Ragans as a sophomore with a priority number of 30. They said “who knows.” Problem is, if you submit a housing application you are obligating yourself to accept an assignment, even if it is not the one you want. She ended up getting a spot in her sorority house, for a lot less money. So we never submitted the application. I will have her ask around to see if she knows many sophomores in Ragans and what there numbers were. McCollum is not bad either.

ps there is a ragans group on facebook, you could post and ask there about who got in as sophomores.

I agree that there is an increase in the number of upperclassmen staying on campus.

Years ago the dorms were places to avoid, but now they are places to covet with no parking issues, no lease issues, no landlord problems and fewer roommate problems. Excepting the dorms on the list to be renovated, the other are pretty nice, if not nearly new. D2 elected to remain on campus and has a single in McCollum Hall. It is really very nice!

I’m currently a sophomore in Ragans, and I have a priority number of 89… my roommate from last year is also a sophomore in Ragans, and she was able to get in, though her priority number was a bit lower in rank… it was 265, I think.

Hm, that sucks. I really, really, reeeally want a single room next year. Do you know of any of the other dorms that I might have a chance of getting a single room in? I’m trying to figure out which order I would want to put down my choices. (Even though I know I still have time and all.)

McCollum is really nice, and there’s always TONS of parking

Sorry to trudge this old post back up, but I have another question. Say next year as a sophomore I trudge through whichever dorm I’m given. What are my chances of getting Ragans as a junior?

I have a friend last year who applied as a to-be sophomore (so was a freshman last year) and ended up in Ragans. His number was in the 3000s.

My boyfriend, also a to-be sophomore last year, has priority number 4918 and received a double in Broward. Like you he too wanted a single and, as soon as housing announcements came out, applied for a room change to a single. He quickly landed a single in Deviney.

When I applied for housing as a to-be sophomore, priority number 7, I received a townhouse in McCollum. I too applied for a room change ASAP and was given a single efficiency in McCollum.

As another example, just to show how awesome the housing transfers (room change requests) can be, I was in a double in Gilchrist freshman year. For personal and health reasons I wanted a single by the time Fall semester ended. So I applied for a room change in mid/late December and by the end of January I had moved into a Gilchrist single!

So even if you don’t get your housing choice the first time around definitely apply for a room change. They are wonderful things!

I agree. By Junior year it is a lock. Sophomore year there is a good chance. Folks with high numbers often get discouraged and go for off campus housing. So with the housing transfer requests, you often get a good room by fall move-in.

Housing announcements are up for those returning.

I’m not sure what the cutoff was for Ragans, but I got in with 261.

Matt125: Hey, I talked to FSU Housing and they said they were just testing the assignment checking thing. So your dorm assignment may be wrong.

But what are the chances that a junior gets Ragans, with a priority # of 259?

Does anybody know what my chances are for a single in Landis with a priority of 699?

If you’re a junior with that priority number, I’d say you’re a lock. Did you not get in with that as a Sophomore, or you tried for something else?

I saw that they claimed it was just a test on FB not too long ago. I wonder how likely it is that it’s wrong, unless their are some people that went unaccounted for when they first ran the test. It shows both hall and room, so I can’t imagine why it’d be wrong. They’re probably just saying that in case a mistake was made, to protect themselves.

Yeah, I did think that they were just saying that.

I transfered Sophomore Spring year so I didn’t even try for Ragans til now.

which dorm would an incoming freshman have the best chance of a single with a priority #4? Is there any chance of a single anywhere? if so, i want to change my preferences before they start to assign. right now i have: 1. Gilchrist 2. Broward 3. Reynolds 4. Wildwood. ideas?

Call housing and ask which freshman dorms have the most singles. Your best shot as a freshman for a single is in an older dorm, not a newer dorm or renovated dorm. They will not assign singles to freshman until ALL upperclassman have been assigned. And even though they are called freshman dorms, it means OPEN to freshman not LIMITED to freshman. So the singles in Gilchrist and Broward and Reynolds as well as any in Wildwood or Degraf (I do not know if they have singles other than for RA’s) are likely to go to upperclassman. IF you want a single really bad, I probably would list the older dorms.

Thanks! That make good sense. I have changed a couple of my preferences, so hopefully I will have a better chance of getting a single. Worth a try…
