Rain coat/rain boot suggestions?

Compared to some of the more significant questions about the college this one isn't as important, but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for types of rain coats and rain boots?

Rain coats: Helly Hansen/ the North Face.

are you out of state? LOL… despite what people here say it actually doesn’t rain much in Seattle inches wise, only a constant winter long light drizzle

Thanks ilikeUW.

And yes, I am out of state. I realize that I’m not going to walk out into the pouring rain everyday of the year, but I really don’t own a rain jacket. I figured that if it will drizzle quite a bit in the winter even if it’s patchy bits of drizzle, something to stay relatively dry would be nice to have.

I went to school there - arnold00 is right, it’s a drizzle not a rain, but that drizzle still gets you plenty wet walking across campus. Check out Northface jackets. The Venture folds up small enough to keep in a backpack. Another thing to keep in mind is that drizzle and humidity make it feel a lot colder than is.

Northface jackets are pretty expensive, not going to lie. They’re really warm though, and at least in my experience, keeps you dry. However, if you check them out during sales or at outlet stores, it’ll be a lot cheaper.

There are also - Marmot, REI brands that have pretty good jackets.

Make sure you have some sort of shoes that is waterproof. Hopefully your shoes are not only sandals or cloth(?) type shoes, like Converse. If it rains a LOT at one time, you might accidentally step into puddles that you can’t really see (I can say this from experience in the Red Square…). However, you’ll get used to seeing people freak out when stepping into puddles and start ‘knowing’ where puddles generally form.

Phenomenal, I really appreciate your guys’ opinions. Thanks!

No problem! If you want, get an umbrella while you’re at it. I know people always say that native Seattlites will scoff and say “Pshh, tourist” if they see someone using an umbrella… but honestly, even people who grew up here use umbrellas (like me!). Sometimes it just pours and you really should stay dry; less chance of getting sick that way too. =)

i have a rain jacket, but i never wear it. i carry an umbrella but 80% of the time it’s raining i can’t be bothered to take it out because it’s hardly worth the effort.

Northface Hyvent rain jackets are good for guys and girls. They keep you really dry. Rain boots or water proof shoes are a must. The short version of the Hunter Original is good for guys and girls. Rubber rain boots can be found just about anywhere. They aren’t really fashionable but keep your feet dry. No one wants to slosh around in cold and wet shoes.
