I’m moving to the rain and need a very good rain coat to keep me dry and warm. Anyone know of any good brands that aren’t overpriced (from the perspective of a broke college student)?
Costco has some rain jackets for men and women plus a short raincoat for women. They are waterproof. You may wish to check out some thrift shops at your new location to see if some folks may be cleaning out their closets and have some great rain coats at good prices.
Sierra trading post .com often has great prices on good quality rain gear. I have a Marmot and a Columbia from there and both have been fantastic - waterproof, durable, comfortable.
^^ In addition to these great suggestions, look online at any of the sporting goods company outlets. (Rei, campmor, etc.) I feel like ll bean is always a great value. My suggestion is to get a good one - nothing worse that a rain coat that doesn’t keep you dry!
I wear a Totes brand raincoat that I got from a thrift store, but they’re still available directly from the seller online.
I wore mine in the pouring rain for 4 hours at a protest and it kept me completely dry. I didn’t even have an umbrella- my upper body was the only thing that wasn’t wet at the end!
They also come with a good amount of pockets (some are in the inner fabric of the jacket) and are super affordable. Their rain slickers run about 35 dollars on their official website. I’m sure if you look on Ebay or Amazon they’ll have even better deals.
