Rainboots

I have this gorgeous pair of Burberry rainboots, but I'm getting conflicting answers on whether or not I should bring them. I'm coming from the east coast, so I don't want to waste suitcase space on something I'm never going to wear. I've been told that it only rains in LA 4 or 5 times a year and they'd be useless. But I've also heard that a lot of girls wear them even when it is not raining.

My vote: don't bring them. I've lived in Southern California all my life and I don't know anyone who wears rainboots.

I've never worn rainboots during my life in Southern California. They may be significant fashion wise, but I've never noticed.

If you need the space, don't bring them. You'll never ever have a need to wear them unless you make a conscious decision to step in a puddle. :)

^ lol there are no puddles in Southern California unless you frequent the tidepools.

So Twinkie, if you plan on tromping in the tidepools, you would be fashionable in your Burberrys. Otherwise, they are just going to take up needed space.

I have to give you credit for bringing up a topic that has definitely never been discussed here. :)

I'd say bring them only if you plan to get a matching beach cruiser bike ;)

I have never worn rainboots at USC (no need!), and I have never seen any of my friends in them, so I wouldn't bring them.

Remember it can be really chilly in LA when it is raining. There are two situations when you might need your boots.

It is raining during a home football game. It would be ridiculous to have to leave early or not go to a game because it was raining, and cold wet feet and body can be unbearable when you have them for hours at a time.

It is raining when you have to go across campus for something, like a class, event, or job interview. That will happen maybe once a year too. It seems a shame to miss out on anything, just because you don't have your boots.

My daughter took her rain suit and Gore-Tex hiking boots, and wore them a couple times. Basically most people were just deciding not to go to things because of the rain, but she wasn't. She said people from SoCal were amazed and seemed to have never seen anything like that.

last winter, when there were slight rains, i saw a couple of people wear rain boots.

global warming and all, you'll never know when it'll rain. just be ready.

Actually, believe it or not, this HAS come up before!

Oops! UCLA!

Ha ha! Don't ever confuse UCLA with USC.

Actually, twinkie, I've been thinking about it and I really think you should bring them and try to start a trend. Uggs have become fashionable here even though we don't need them. Maybe cute rainboots could become the next thing.

I love the uggs and short shorts look...especially when it is 90" outside. Has that certain je ne sais quoi...

rainboots are cute, but sometimes it looks like it will rain, so you get excited and wear them thinking they'll be useful, and then it doesn't rain and you feel silly for getting excited

I've grown up in Southern California and there really isn't a need for rainboots. Honestly, ever when it does rain it's only a few inches at a time and I've never been deterred by the weather when it does happen. Do people tend to stay inside and watch TV? Well...yes :-) we do. But we still go to class and everything...
