Hey guys, I just got an email about a summer program from UVa called the "Rainey Academic Program." Can anybody provide me with some more information about this? Basically I want to know if it is something they just give out to students or is it like a special program I dont really know if i want to do it...also i know if there are a lot of students that are invited to the program (although i doubt it since there are only 20 spots?)

Hello! I googled the program and this is what I found:

[Rainey Program Offers Low-Income Students a Smooth Transition](http://www.virginia.edu/uvatoday/newsRelease.php?id=3173)

Seems pretty cool to me!!!

Well I just checked my email and it turns out I was chosen to participate, as well! I don’t have any plans over the summer; however, I’m not entirely sure if I’ll even be attending UVa yet! At the same time, I want to send my response to this program quickly so I won’t be placed on the waitlist!

I’m more excited about making new friends at the program than I am about actually starting school early -.- Hahaha But I think it will be a great opportunity to form a very tight knit community with the other chosen scholars ;)

yeah im definitely going to look more into this program

Hey, yousaf! I was in the Rainey Program this previous summer. You probably received an email from Dean Rachel Most and/or Megan Haury, correct?

So, I’ll give you a short description of the program:

You will be at UVA for a month during the summer.

You will take two classes of your choosing that are being offered. Your classes/summer meal plan will be paid-in-full!!!

As for the Rainey aspect: You have to attend various meetings throughout your stay here. The meetings are SOOOO helpful. You get financial aid advice, academic advice, and all other types of advice. You will also meet with TONS of people who work at UVA (Deans, Professors, etc.)

I don’t know where you’ll be staying, but I stayed in Cauthen (dorm) throughout the summer. Both Rainey Scholars and students in the transition program were in Cauthen. We all had a great time, and met so many people—seriously, you’ll make a lot of friends during your stay.

Since you’ll be here (UVA) for the summer, when you do come back for the school year, you’ll be ahead of the game because you’ll know where everything is.

Lastly, if you do decide to come to UVA and participate in the Rainey Program, attend ALL of the orientation sessions—free food + activities!
