RAISE ME... worth it????

My son did an account and then everything was gone. My question is … is it worth filling it all in again? There are some colleges he has applied to that list this as micro-scholarships but does it affect what he could get in other aid??

The premise behind it is the school is supposed to guarantee you will get at least that much in institutional aid from them. It doesn’t stack. DS has only one school that uses RaiseMe and his microscholarships are at about 3K or something like that. Well, we know he’s getting a 4K scholarship from there just from the Net Price Calculator, so unless we can squeeze some more out of RaiseMe it’s not doing him any good.

I’d probably do it just because I don’t want to even leave $100 on the table, but odds are it won’t make any difference.

my son received a “Raiseme” scholarship from WVU in the amount of $18,000-when we spoke personally to the Financial Aid Office at WVU we were told “well-it’s not good news”! So-my son received an award of $12,000 per year directly from WVU. The $4,500 per year he “received” from Raiseme only goes back to WVU to “offset” his award of $12,000. At the end of the day, my son received ZERO dollars from Raiseme, the $12,000 is still in play ($4500 will now go to WVU from Raiseme-not to my son) so the actual cost to WVU has dropped from $12,000 per year to $7,500 and WVU makes out on the deal. It’s pretty much a bait and switch-YOU won’t be getting that money-the COLLEGE will get it.

@glib2020 thank you.
