ok guys i scored a 1080 my first try.. how much can i expect to raise it if i study hard from now to the 22nd?

It depends mainly on you.

Mine went up 60 points w/o studying...so...more than 60 points? lol

I personally wouldn't suggest studying too many vocabulary words. Maybe read a few tips online, get a good nights rest...and look over math traps.

no, no ,no, study study study! try to get in 50 hours using the "10 REAL SATs" and some vocab words won't help... but also learn some tips (such as memorize instructions, they are allways the same and jsut waste time). and don't cram the night before the test, maybe lightly study, get a good night of sleep and maybe browse over some math tricks/ vocab words the mroning of the exam. But msot of all, be relaxed, approach the test relaxed (I mean word hard, getting the problems done at a good pace, but don't be ridiculously nervous.).

would it be out of the question for me to raise it by 200 easily by studying lets say 30min - 1 hr each day until the 22nd? by studying i mean like 5-10 vocabs a day and "math in a nutshell" as its called in my book which is the top 100 math concepts... and also memorizing the instructions and a few practice tests as well

--thanks for any advice.. please post freely..

you could probably raise your score 50-100

actually, that is rough estimate, like twitb said it depends on you

I raised my scores 200 points (1110 to 1310) i took Kaplan, I dont know if that is a nationwide thing, but it was AMAZING

i went up from 1100 to 1300 cuz of Kaplan. .but i cant say how much i wouldve done if had not taken it.. cuz surely 1100 was not my best

i went from a 30 ACT to a 32 ACT without any prep...which is about a 100 point jump equivalent...it can happen

Take a lot of practice tests...don't study words for hours. You won't remember them. But get a good feel for the test, what types of answers certain questions will have...things like that. Also, it is much easier to study for the math section than the verbal, so you can focus your efforts on that as well.

My score increased rougly 350 points between the PSAT and my final SAT. I put in hours upon hours of studying and tutoring. Work hard though, it'll pay off.

dude no vocab. no math just lots of practice tests. I got an 1110 and i rasied it to a 1320. Email me at petersreid@aol.com and ill send u some strategies on the verbal if you want. Otherwise just take like a practice test every 2 days and i promise at least a 100 pt. improvement

I got a 1230 on my PSAT, but I was able to bring it up to a 1440 on the SAT.

lol, I got an 1190 PSAT and then went up to 1330 SAT then to a 1420 on SAT

This threads proves my belief students ought not to be able to take the SAT more than twice. Once to take into account not feeling well and so on. A high SAT is really not that reflective of a persons ability if the result of constant retakes and high priced test specific cramming. This is probably why most universities put much more emphasis on the GPA. Is a kid who got a 1420 after multiple re-takes really more qualified than a kid who got 1250 the first time out and didn't take it again? It seems a large number high scores it really start out that high (based on this thread)

well sometimes it is a little funky.
for me i got a 55 on the psat for verbal, yet i got a 670 on the sat

on the psat writing i got a 67, but on my first sat II writing i only got 530. I retook it and got 680

psat math i got 69, SAT I 700, IIc i got a 610, took the Ic and got a 720.
I am a lot better at simpler math, so this wasn't really a suprise for me
people do have off days, or the person grading their essay somehow hates them with a passion and gives them a 4 out of 12

i never took SATs without a prep course but for my PSATs I had a predicted score of 1280 (710 -M, 570 -V). After my prep course I raised both scores up 50 points so i got a 1380 ( 760 -M, 620 -V). The second time I retook it just for the verbal and i managed only to up my verbal up to 640, but my math took a side trip to 680 -_-.

I only retook the SATs a third time just to see what would happen if you get sleep (night before = no studying at all for me) I found it lot easier to focus on math. I'll let you know how my results went. It might lend some weight on people saying getting a good night's sleep is important.

I got 1420 the first time without studying... I was happy, but dont you have the new SAT now? Like... you got a 1080 on the three part SAT or the two part SAT?
