How many people actually get jail time for a fake id? 90%+ of the time the bartender/bouncer/liquor store guy will just take the id and tell you to beat it.

EDIT: For Americans, that is. Obvs different for internationals.

Obviously the bouncer/bartender/liquor store owner won’t make a big deal and won’t call the police. If the police happen to see your fake ID somehow, which yes is unlikely, you will be arrested on the spot.

I heard a news story a while back of someone giving their fake ID by mistake instead of real ID when flying…it didn’t turn out well for him.

Obviously things like this are far from common, but the risks are there that make it not worth it. So many people have fake ID’s, and 99.99% will never be caught, and even less will have anything serious happen to them. Still, it’s a stupid risk to take for a small gain.

Chill out. I can get alcohol from anywhere. I would use a fake just to get into 21+ concerts. It’s total bull that these clubs have to be 21+ because of dumb laws. It really sucks when a band you really like is playing a show near you, but it’s at a 21+ venue and you’re underage.

Well I won’t try to defend myself, I am aware some pepole see minors drinking as despicable. Along the lines of what sunsloth was saying, I let my morals guide me, as opposed to text laid down in a faraway legislative assembly.

Once again though, thanks guys for the perspectives. Am long since over the idea of a fake ID considering what you’ve told me about the consequences. Didn’t know it was such a big deal, to be honest.

Now to write some college essays…

It’s not about the law. Wanting to risk so much just to get drunk and laid is what’s despicable.

I rarely drink to get drunk and I never drink to get laid. I just want the liberties that all other adults in all other countries enjoy from age 18; relax brother!

Now what’s really bad is making fake IDs. It’s a felony and carries a harsh sentence ever since 9/11. Don’t ever get in that business lol… all it takes is one kid with a fake you made getting caught. Cops scare him into coughing up the name of the guy who makes them and bam, you’re in the hoosegow.

Copy paste where I indicate how superior I am to others, and I’ll get counseling.

So? He still wants to fake an ID.

Yeah, a bunch of people do heroin too, and they don’t get in trouble. I know this isn’t as bad as getting a fake ID, but just because everyone does it doesn’t mean it’s okay.

I never said that I was better than him. I told you to copy paste where I indicated that I was better than him. Instead, you copy pasted where I said that what he was doing was wrong.

Next time, instead of resorting to vacuous emotional polemics, please first consider the facts.

Depending where you will live, some communities take fake id’s seriously. I know in my college town, the police do random checks at the bars or do undercover door men. If caught, you get arrested and a pretty hefty fine for any college student.

You said you didn’t like my attitude, so clearly, it’d give one the impression that you actually read my posts. But you didn’t - why didn’t you read one of my posts?

I actually state that the law is stupid. How on earth can you claim that it’s my thinking? Will you please read?

It gives us an idea of his character. While I agree that the law is stupid, he’s willing to break it for the sake of going to bars.

Criticising someone /=/ conceited.

The 21+ law is obviously meant to keep alcohol out of High-schools. The whole system in Europe is a little different.

We had 18+ in Wisky for a while and it was a mess. Now, it’s 18+ with supervision, not like that stops anybody. Ironically, you can get a bartending license at 18 here…

I’m the type of guy that’s been turned off to the US drinking scene by the people that do it. Maybe I should move to Europe…

Well if I’m not mistaken Europeans tend to introduce alcohol to their kids pretty early on. A glass of wine every once in a while at dinner and whatnot. By the time they leave the nest they’re not unfamiliar with it at all, whereas in the US I’d wager most alcohol consumption by minors is done under the cover of parties at houses where mom and dad are gone for the weekend.

Hell in the UK one can go to a pub with their parents and get a beer at 16, no?

Yeah, I’m pretty sure the drinking “age” is 5 in the UK with parental supervision. If you ask me, a lot of the problems that college freshmen in the US run into regarding alcohol (especially binge drinking) are because they haven’t been exposed to it, and now they want to drink as much as possible since mom and dad aren’t around anymore. IMO if the drinking age was lowered to 18 and it wasn’t such a taboo, there would be less alcohol related issues on campuses overall.

I do think though if the drinking age was lowered to 18 there would be a transition period. A really messy one. We also don’t have a culture where many families eat dinner together, much less have a glass of wine at dinner together.

Well that probably needs to change then…

Sidenote, I went to the US with the J1 visa and while there a friend who was over 21 (and from Austria) lend me her driver’s license, granted we look alike, and at nightclubs they dont have the time to make a deep inspection, the only trouble I faced was once in NYC the guy took a while looking at the ID and scanned it, but he was scanning everyone’s ID, and someother time when a guy started speaking in german o_0 I couldn’t answer to his questions so I made up a story, divorced parents, father in Austria so I never learned german etc etc…be creative. oh yeah and I used to go in first and my friend 15 minutes later.
