Plan on doing eithe Army or Navy or Air Force ROTC

What are my chances for.... (in order)

Duke

Vanderbilt

Notre Dame (I'm not Catholic, but a Christian)

University of Illinois (both my parents went here and I am a huge Illini fan, but I want my professors to actually know who I am)

Texas Christian (TCU) (my safety)

I’d say 45% chance at duke and Vanderbilt, 50% chance at Notre Dame and U of Illinois and 99.99% at Texas Christian.

Duke and Vandy are toss ups but I would bet you get into one or both , Good chance at Notre Dame and in at UIUC and TCU

i don’t know your chances, but i do wanna know how you raised you score that much. that’s a LOT!!

yeah how did you raise your score six points!!!

Well, I messed up big time on my first ACT. I took it in January, and got a 28. I took way too much time on the Math, and then the Science I came just short of giving up. English and Reading I did ok.

Second time around I didn’t start prepping until about 2 weeks ahead of time, and basically I just took 3 practice tests.

I brought my scores up from…
Math - 28 to 33
Science - 26 to 33 (biggest)
Reading - 31 to 34
English - 30 to 34

And Frankly, the thing that helped me the most was my 2nd semester classes. I had our school’s hardest (and best) english teacher, best history teacher (lots of writing), and I also took my first chemistry class.

(and frankly, I think I still got a little lucky ;), I was anticipating a 31 or 32)

Bumpity dumpity humpity

Strong chances for TCU, Notre Dame, and Illinois.
I think that your GPA and test scores put you in the midrange of accepted applicants(slightly higher ACT, lower GPA/class rank), so i think if you write a solid essay and presentable app, you can definitely get in.

“but willing to get my Eagle if I need it for Duke”

Are you implying that the only reason that you are willing to achieve the honor of beign an Eagle Scout, one of the most prestigious merit for the time-honored Boy Scouts, is to pad your college application?

This is probably one of the most disheartening thing I’ve read so far in CC.

The value of the Eagle Scout award has diminished significantly over the past few decades

^^^
I blame colleges.

Well, I can’t honestly say I take that much pride in Scouts. I loved Philmont and high adventure stuff, but the rest of the stuff (popcorn sales, scout oath and crap, uniforms) just annoyed me.

Duke-Probably Reject

Vanderbilt-Reach

Notre Dame (I’m not Catholic, but a Christian)-Low Reach

University of Illinois (both my parents went here and I am a huge Illini fan, but I want my professors to actually know who I am)-Safety w/legacy

Texas Christian (TCU) (my safety)-Safety
