I’ve been trying my best to rack up scholarship money before college. One site that proved useful (only for one of my schools: Temple) was Raise.me. The site told me that it has sent my scholarship update to Temple University ($5,000 per year). Will this scholarship lower the amount of financial aid that I receive from the school (if I get any)? Or would this money be put on top of my regular financial aid package?
You need to ask the school to find out. Usually an outside scholarship would reduce your need so less FA.
Raise Me is kind of a racket. All it is saying is that Temple has promised to “meet or beat” the number that they said they would award you in Raise Me. Three of the schools my son applied to last year were partnered with Raise Me and not one had a separate “Raise Me” scholarship listed when the award letters came out. They all had scholarships and institutional aid that exceeded the amount, but I think he probably would have gotten that anyhow based on his grades and test scores (which you also entered into Raise Me).
I think it still is worth doing because it’s easy and helps you keep track of things like EC’s and such as you go through high school.
